Hidden deep within
A crack that's so thin
Even lesser than a pin
But deadly as sin
When darkness breaks in
It's just like toxin
Release the devil within
Or fight it back to win

Emotions, perspectives and perceptions
Sometimes blind us of judgement
Expressions, body language, misconceptions
Gives different meaning to a harmless statement
Humans after all and not contraptions
Inevitably we get caught in some predicament
Nobody's perfect and there're no exceptions
But we choose the path and lay our own pavement

Creating a sentence can be an art
Different meanings with each word pulled apart
Regardless of whether one is smart
Or read it with an open heart
Can turn a delicious tart
Into a deadly poison dart

The years have amounted to thirteen
Thoughts and feelings were then still teen
Not cherishing what can be seen
Only realizing what could have been

A cup of tea, a cigarette and a book
Seated there at your usual spot
Those wonderful dishes you used to cook
None can replicate what's in that pot
That mysterious and expressionless look
Perhaps the reason that I have got
Even though you have been took
Memories and moments we never forgot

It's been 13 years and you're still missed... Dad!

We sometimes get under the weather
As though we're about to wither
And allow ourselves to rather
Let feelings and emotions smother
All the life choices that we gather
Did we choose this from the other
At times we wonder whether
Perhaps did we even bother
To realise there's always another
Be here and now, free as a feather

The intensity of every stroke
Gliding along the invisible line
Feeling an occasional poke
As those lines begin to redefine
Thoughts and emotions spoke
As the body starts to define
A mutual connection awoke
So indescribable and divine
This special bond ain't no joke
When the author and story combine

Stepped out into a familiar place
Vivid memories slammed right in the face
For a moment fell from grace
Losing sense of direction and pace

It's inevitable to sometimes retrace
As though it's a back and forth race
Hang on tight even if it's just a lace
Here and Now we should embrace

Cos everything will eventually fall in place

Frail and fatigued looking was he
Seated on a bench between those trees
He was at least twice the age of me
Bowed down arms resting on knees

Ignorant of the what's happening around
In his own world feeling safe and sound
Drifting away deep in thought
Reminiscing his life's battles fought

Then along came a feeble looking she
Steady steps makes her feel free
Approaching him as calm as can be
Her face seems to be beaming with glee

When their eyes met on common ground
A priceless treasure seems to be found
Wonderful memories cannot be bought
Cherish every moment that we sought

Angels may fall from broken wings

Turn of events can bring unhappy things

The compass hand frantically swings

Seeking out where the heart sings

It's not over when one still sings

One door closes another one swings

Look ahead towards happier things

Grow yourself a new pair of wings

Be amazed by what tomorrow brings

Looking at how our lives have grown
The different colors, shades and tones
Reflect upon the seeds we have sown
Have we stumbled upon one too many stones
Have we followed where the wind has blown
And in return get shivers to the bones
Are we willing to venture into the unknown
By stepping out of those comfort zones
Destiny lies within heart and soul of our own

When darkness comes to haunt
The devil emerges to taunt
Presence just obnoxiously flaunt
Frailty of mortals begin to daunt

Sunday, June 22, 2014

We live and learn from everybody
Regardless if one is three, ten for seventy
Doesn't really have to be somebody
Even a kid can teach you plenty
We seek to find the so called remedy
To find answers for the uncertainty
In the end there is just nobody
But in ourselves who will find clarity

Weddings

An occasion to bring friends closer

Catching up and keeping bonds tighter

Reminiscing moments that we all remember

With smiles and laughter that comes after

To the couples who brought us back together

A wonderful and blissful marriage forever

Setback after setback with each day
Like a downward fall going all the way
Ain't gonna back down ain't pulling away
Things will get better than okay
Bring em on... Come what MAY
Cos positivity is here to stay
頑張って,がんばって,ガンバッテ

The world revolves in such fragility
Turning life into such complexity
Reaching goals by means of frailty
Perhaps even resorting to cruelty
Defining lines between wealth and poverty
Losing sense of direction and certainty
What is the meaning of simplicity
And where does one seek to find clarity

Holding hands and strolling was an elderly couple
This guy's action that revealed his partners's dimple
A little boy running around happily with an apple
A toddler amazed at how a raindrop creates a ripple
Smiles and laughter are just so wonderful and simple
As I walked on to the tune of Beautiful People

This simple poem may not mean much

And it ain't gonna be as sweet as honey

But lil things from just a simple touch

Can be worth much more than money

From those who appreciate you as such

All the best in your new journey

You brought joy and laughter to those around

Setting this place full of light and sound

And now a new ground you have found

A journey with vast opportunities abound

13 years ago there was still a cake
With lighted candles and wishes to make
There were even photos we could take
Historical moments one cannot remake
Opened my eyes and stood up as I awake
Memorable moments just started to rake

Happy Birthday Dad!

A community trail walk at TPY

Space meant for community

But Caretakers are only three

Does fencing up mean private property

Ain't a community garden supposed to be free

Not just someone to fix a sole

Need some info he can be the "mole"

A babysitter if you're up to the neck

He's the cobbler at the void deck

A long corridor where everyone walks

Someone to lookout around the clock

Does a smaller one means more or less talks

Or shut out from the bolt and lock

Drawing hopscotch with colored chalks

Is different in a slab and point block

Classic biscuits in tins for a start

There's no need to push a cart

The tee kum machines just plays a part

With stacks of boxes seem like an art

Just hang around and open your heart

In the magic of a hdb minimart

2 poems on Spaces

1
All the different events and places
Those unforgettable moments and faces
From learning to tie shoelaces
To scoring all the aces
Looking back at those traces
We're all in the dimension of spaces

2
Slowing down and reflecting the traces
How life has gone through different phases
Moments shared and memorable places
Unique on its own and doesn't erases
Priceless expressions on the faces
Unforgettable regardless in what cases
The jigsaw pieces that filled the spaces
New journey, new beginning, starting bases

Sunday, March 30, 2014

A new beginning, a passing phase
An ending chapter, parting ways
Living the moment, running a race
A fruitful journey, end of days

Here to stay or just passing by
Not knowing when hello meets goodbye
Seeking answers or just asking why
Time watches on and continues to fly

Every thought, each word we say
Paints the picture of today
Even a simple move in chess play
Can just determine come what may

The unpredictable can we deny
The inevitable one can we defy
Let it out regardless laugh or cry
Living the moment as we try

Stumbled upon a queer looking shell
One wonders what beneath dwells
Releasing an indescribable smell
All of a sudden the peal of bells
It was so strong that one just fell
A voice from within suddenly yells
"Come on in I have wares to sell"
"Anything you want, even wishing wells"

...The rest of the story is for you to tell

Thursday, March 13, 2014

It's not about what's in the gift
But more of the right moment to give
Even a simple thought can give one a lift
Brightens one's day, even reason to live

Putting my trust to wherever he might go
Like how rivers will merge as they flow
He's matured enough I should think so
The years together as we both grow
After all he is my one and only bro
Responsibilities and boundaries I should know

January, February, March, April, May
Pringles, Ruffles, Calbee, Kettles, Lays
Likings, preferences, choosing our own ways
What makes us who we are today
Doesn't really matter about hear says
Be who you are everything will be okay
Everyone is unique in their very own ways
Just be true to oneself each and every day

Looking behind the here and now
A treasure trove of lost memories
This garden filled with seeds we once plow
Have bloomed into countless stories
Give a smile and take a bow
Cos the future is built with these melodies

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Why do we hold on to memories
Even though they end up as tragedies
Start having all kinds of queries
While listening to those sad melodies

Even though we've been hit by a  lorry
But life's not supposed to be so crappy
Rather than feel depressed and sorry
Shouldn't we look ahead and be happy

Simplicity

We sometimes make choices out of conformity
Justify and rationalize based on relativity
Eventually facing setbacks with such negativity
And compromise with what defines normality

Life is short just explore the possibility
With a lil touch of gradual positivity
The world evolved into such complexity
When life is all about simplicity

Chapters

Flipping over to the next page
How mankind evolved to this stage
With unconventional measures to gauge
Which never existed in the Stone Age
Discovery of time that we call age
Invention of paper that gives us wage
Building walls around us like a cage
Destruction of nature out of rage

Light

In the depths of a quiet night
Pitch black was the only sight
A sudden gust of wind from the right
Seem to lift one's soul into flight
Shivers and chills one couldn't fight
Trembling fists unable to clench tight
Wishing as much as one might
To catch just a glimpse of light

Bubbles

Are we trapped in our own little bubble
Within comfort zone away from trouble
What's beyond could be unstoppable
Perhaps we could even find a double
Do we hold back from what's capable
And be contented with the probable

Choices

Taste, hearing, smell or sight
Which is wrong and which is right
A lit path in the depths of night
A dark alley in the day so bright
Who's to tell which decision is bright
Only fate and destiny will know one's plight

Each choice that we make
Whichever path that we take
Are we being real or just being fake
And the question is for whose sake
Everyday as we awake
Every single moment is at stake

To hold on or to cut loose
To follow the don'ts or dos
When given options to choose
Are we there to win or lose
